Fujimi Porsche 917 available
Looks like a stunner
I think i'm right in saying this kit is an old tooling that was abandoned for some time, years infact. It shows!!! The kit looks very reminiscent of the GT40 and Ferrari P4 kits - which is a good thing. If i'm wrong about this little bit of trivia and this is a completely new tooling, then maybe we are seeing Fujimi heading back to the ways of thier glory days Now get ready for a whole wave of aftermarket parts and decals from the usual suspects. Bring it on!

Re: Fujimi Porsche 917 available
I've seen the sign of recovery in their Cobra kit. While the body proportion is questionalbe, it has some ideas that you only see when an organizational change take place, such as hiring new and skilled enginners. If you swap the right and left wheel hubs, you can adjust the height. The Legacy kit has spacer parts to do the same. I hope they start tooling a better body, like Tamiya does by slightly altering the proportion to look better in 1/24 scale.
Edit: I'm saving the space. >Jay It says Order List No. 1, All New Tool Last edited by hirofkd; 12-03-2003 at 10:40 PM. |

I would like to know if this is a new tooling also. I have one of the old Union 917K kits (also released as heller and testors), and I just got the Studio 27 PE plate for this Fujimi model. Comparing the pictures in the S27 PE kit, there appears to be differences between the Union kit and the Fujimi kit, so this may be new.
Anyone out there know for sure? |

It's 100% now tool. I know for sure, because... 1) Fujimi announced an all new 917K back in 1995, displaying a wood master. 2) Part tree looks totally different from Heller kit. 3) I sent an email to Fujimi to make sure, and they replid. Need more proof? |

I wonder what the Japanese text says next to the giant word "NEW" on those papers...

When HLJ announced that Fujimi was issuing the 917K, I think they said it was all new tooling.
Complete engine detail.....new tooling....droool. No more getting into bidding wars on eBay for Union/Heller 917's.

Re: Fujimi Porsche 917 available
New, old, I care not!
I'm just super pleased it has finally seen the light of day. Goes to show modeling dreams can come true. A couple of years ago Hasegawa satisfied my wish for a 1/24th plastic Lancia 037 and now Fujimi give us this! I'm going to wait until the Gulf version is released and order them together, probably some time in the new year. Now just need the time to build 'em all. |

Its a new mold, and a curbside, sealed back end
I've got one, Red 23, and its a curbside. Top and bottom engine are
supplied, and transmission and rear suspension, but nothing inside the engine cover that can't be seen from outside. No fuel or oil tanks, no sides to the engine, throttle slides, etc, etc. Rear radius arms end just after they go through slots in the forward inner fenders. The body is built so they could have had a full engine but they stopped short of actually supplying it. And there's 'filler' around the chassis where the engine joins the transmission so you can't see into the engine compartment. So you'll have to scratch-build the engine and chassis and tanks but not many complex shapes. Exhasust system and the very tops of the intake trumpets are there. Most of what you see for the 917 engine is blanking plates to keep the cooling air going where it was wanted anyway. Lets hope for a Studio 27 resin set. BIll Abbott |

Re: Fujimi Porsche 917 available
All versions have the window in the the roof for the Daytona version too, and a panel to fill it in if building other than the Daytona cars.

Re: Fujimi Porsche 917 available
They also included blanking panels for some of the NACA ducts that were on some versions but not others. Fujimi did leave a lot of engine parts out, but at least it's an improvement on the GT40s in that regard.
