Smile Duromax diesel exhaust restricter braking

What about using a butterfly valve exhaust restricter to us as an engine brake for my 3500 GMC. Will it hurt the engine to have a lot of back pressure doing this?

Re: Duromax diesel exhaust restricter braking

i do not know how this will affect the duramax, but years ago 1980's we had exhaust breaks on the large catepillars in the trucks i drove, all of these trucks where equiped with pyrometer guages so we could monitor the exhaust manifold tempatures because you could seriously overheat those motors by restricking the exhaust,, if you need a brake/ heavy loads on steep grades i would not over use it, if not i would pass on having one in my truck
