Na, that stuff really does work. Best thing is find one of the fuel manufactors, that already adds that stuff. To their fuel when blinding it for their own brand specs. Something like Chevron's Tectron (or whatever it's called), ect...

The over the counter bottles do not contain enough of the "good stuff", to even to begin to work properly.... hehehe

Good gas will keep your injectors OK for the most part. If they need cleaning you can take them out and they can be cleaned with an ultra-sonic process and checked for flow.

A goo thing to do in damper climates is to toss in a bottle of gas dryer to get at any condensation in your fuel tank.....like once a year. Water leads to rust and that's a bad thing.

the best thing to do is get yourself some used injectors and have them sent off to be matched and blueprinted. it's like $25 injector ($100/set) but they will be as close to new as you can get.

i think places like jiffy lube can clean them for you...but it's been so long since i've been to a place like that, i could very well be wrong. give your local one a call...

I have friend that works for a refinery & he gave me a gallon of the stuff they add to the gas. He told me to use a 1/2 oz per full tank every few thousand miles. I noticed a difference the first time i used it.

the additive for the gas tank is considered a fuel injection cleaner which actually half ass cleans intake ports & valves, not much more than that. the right was to clean injectors is to remove the injectors & have them pro. cleaned.

if it matters I run gumout fuel injection cleaner now and then, like twice or so over the summer. Over the winter the car see's alot of gas dryer. I also keep it on a steady diet of 89 octane gas, it seems to enjoy life like that far as i know. This winter i'm gonna try to get my injectors rebuilt and blueprinted like Ami and Darhol mentioned thats definally on my list. I jump up to like 94 octane if i know the car is going drag racing or road racing so i can push the timing up a bit.

And even my two ITR driving friends I know buy NOS fuel booster when they go track racing...does it help? I seriously think they do it so they can get the blue bottle and say they have NOOSSSSS in their car, and i'm not kidding either lol. Its a humor thing they arn't that stupid

A fuel injector cleaner that really works

The injector cleaners that you buy over the counter don't do a darn thing. The ingredients are diluted in them so that John Doh! doesn't torch his wife's grocery getter(Unfortunately, Chevron's Techron is diluted too). However, there are professional strength products used by mechanics that deliver noticeable results. Our Mechanical shop uses BG 44K to clean all but the most stubborn carbon build-up.

check out http://www.bgprod.com/bgconsumer/bgservices/44k.html

The rub is BG ONLY sells to shops.

as a reference, our mechanical shop has 30 bays, 15 ASE certified technicians and works on about 60 cars a day. www.smiky.com

if you want 44K check out the url in my signature.

Re: best fuel injector cleaner?!?!?!?!

There is this stuff called Chemtool B-12 it's more like a carburator cleaner but it can be added to your tank. If there is anything in there clogging anything it will be gone in 1 tank. I used it on my car after it sat for a few years without being fired with gas in the tank. As we all know gas turns to a varnish like substance. I never had any problems with anny clogging or gas mileage or anything. It's like $2 a can or so. You can get it from your local auto parts store.

A couple years ago my car would just stall for no reason all the time, it would start right back up but it would do it when I was sitting in traffic. It was in the shop for something else, and my mechanic said it was the feul injectors and he told me to get STP fuel injector cleaner. I used that and the problem went right away. A couple months later my car started to stall again and I did the same thing, and its been two years since then and it hasnt done it since.

Re: best fuel injector cleaner?!?!?!?!

I had problems starting in cold weather and i noticed an actual improvement after using Gumout with Regane.

And there is another one that is supposed to be as good. "techtron," perhaps?

But my mechanic did say never more than every so often. Never more often than you change your oil. If even that.
