1978 Chateau wagon Econoline! fuel pump!

I just got this van as a gift plenty of rust but there's something about these big vans and the V8! The only thing wrong is the fuel pump. It was easy to remove the two mounting bolts but now the A/C is in the way and it seems I cannot remove the pump with out taking the who A/C out of it. Is there a easier way to access this pump? Please let me know thanks in advance.

Is there anyone out there with experience with this same problem?!! I wrestled with that thing all day today. I removed the bottom radiator hose and still could not remove the pump. It seems the A/C unit is some what impossible remove or get out of the way. There must be some sort of trick to it. The book does not seem to address the A/C.
