dos a dos

Created around the turn of the century, this brithish car ran off coal gas, its four wheels were in a diamond pattern, and the brake was operated by the passenger, who was facing BACKWARDS!!!!

See, you learn something new every day

What do you mean diamond pattern for the wheels? Were they diamond shaped instead of round? That'd be quite the bumpy ride....

Diamond pattern is one at the front, one at the back, and two off to the sides. So its like this face pattern:

"dos a dos" was a seating position, not a wheel formation.
