Angry Please help...Need opinions on this!

I have a 2000 Grand Prix with 48K miles on it...

I noticed a deep rumbling noise lately when I'm driving..it gets even louder particularly when I make left turns. I took it to a mechanic and he replaced the wheel bearings. That didn't work and now he's saying that its my transmission! He said the job would cost around $ 2000.

How is this possible? The car does not even have that many miles...I already had a gasket fixed along with other things that cost me a thousand bucks over last year. What's going on? Is the mechanic screwing me or did I get stuck with a bad car?? And all of this happened right after my warranty expired!

Is there a cheap alternative to this transmission problem??

I would take it somewhere else for diagnosis. Anyone else that you trust in the area? If nothing else you might find a better price.
