Question Misfire? Head gasket?

Last night getting home, the car started acting like it wanted to die. After started making a noise that sounds like misfiring coming more from the tailpipe. Very little smoke if any. Checked coolant looked to be empty at the radiator so added some coolant and after not adding much started overflowing. When adding some to the overflow box started gurgling at the radiator. Never overheated according to temperature gauge. Checked oil and clean, overdue for an oil change, but clean. Does take a second to get it to start now also. There is a check engine light on, but scared to drive it anywhere to check it. Any advice?

Re: Misfire? Head gasket?

Allow it to cool completely, then check the coolant level again. I'm guessing you'll find it very low. Since the coolant was probably well below the temperature sensor it would never sense the overheat condition.

What year and what engine?

Re: Misfire? Head gasket?

Thank you for your reply. It is a 2006 Grand Prix 3.8 V6. I waited to check it again until this morning and when I took the cap off the coolant was still leaking out of the top of the radiator. He filled it all the way up last night. He did have me turn it on to add to both the radiator and the reservoir when he filled it last night. I apologize, I do not know much at all about cars.
