AWD and ABS Disabled, Problem solved.

Day before yesterday the AWD and ABS were disabled on my 2005 Aztek, my first response was to check the rear axle wiring and plugs for the wheel sensors, no problems found there though.

Felt an increasing amount of noise from front of car, jacked vehicle up and found an excessive amount of right front wheel wobble, looked at the area at the outer CV joint and saw a small mass of frayed fine wire, the obvious reason for the tire wobble, rumbling noise and the warning lights was of course a bad wheel bearing hub assembly, which also destroyed the wheel sensor entirely.

Replacing the complete unit was not hard at all, only issue is the bolts with locktite on them are hard to break free, since I have an ample amount of Snapon tools and 40 years as a mechanic it was not a hard job at all replacing the assembly.

The only other issue was a Service Engine warning which stopped after a few miles and restarts, my OBD II scanner could not get any fault codes so its in the ABS side of the cars program, something that a dealership can get access to.

This car had 52,000 miles on it, I would suggest anyone with an Aztek to automatically replace the hub assembly at this mileage point, the only real problem a do it yourselfer will have is getting a 1 5/16 socket and enough torque to R&R the axle nut. Air tools are helpful, and don't damage the threads on the axle stub pushing it past the bearing. Use a wood block, I cheat, I have an air impact hammer.

The new hub assembly was just under $200, no core charge and comes with a sensor ring assembly, cord and plug.
