Steering wheel lock/ignition

'06 GTO

Anyone else had this happen?

I've suddenly had trouble turning the key in the ignition. The key fits in the ignition with no resistance, however when the key is turned it is stuck. I have to work the steering wheel back and forth while wiggling the key in the ignition to get it to turn. Once it unlocks I can turn it back and forth freely without resistance... but once the key is removed rfom the ignition I will have the same problem again once it is put back in.

I am not sure if the steering wheel lock is a part of the actual ignition switch... any thoughts on how to approach this most reasonably? Obviously, I don't want to have to put in a new ignition switch... would be nice if there is something mechanical in there that I might be able to repair/adjust.

I'm just looking for some insight before I take things apart.
