Question Help What's with low profiles! Help NEEDED

Hi there! I am clue less with my new car that i just bought. A 01 Nissan Altima, that the old owner was working on adding things on and one thing is that they put 20" wheels and low profile. I am not sure if i like them low, what happens if i hit a nail? How do they handle in the snow?
I want to go from 20" wheels to 18" or 17", do i have to lower or raise it? What's the deal?

You shouldn't have to raise or lower it. The overall diameter of the tire will remain the same; the wheel diameter will decrease, and the tire sidewall height will increase. I'd say try to find someone with an Altima with the wheels you want and see if they want to trade- there are plenty of idiots out there who don't care if their car rides like shit, as long as it's got 'dubz'.

20s on an Altima? Wow, that's way too low of a profile. Double check the tire and make sure it is at least an 89 load rating (after the size on the sidewall). You likely are running on overloaded tires if the load rating is lower than that. I don't know of a 20 with enough load capacity that will fit without rubbing. This car should have 205/50-17 or maximum of a
215/40-18 tire size.

also, I wouldn't even attempt to drive with those in the snow, most 20" car tires aren't M+S rated.

The chrome finish will not hold up very well in colder temps. The plating process uses three different metals and each will shrink and expand at a different rate. In time, the layers will sheer apart and that's when they start to peel.
