90 Acclaim won't start

My friend has a 90 Acclaim that is giving him problems starting. Last week the shut off while he was driving. He has since replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pump. The car ran great for a few days. Now the car is acting the way again. When he tries to start it, it will spit and sputter for a few seconds and shut off again. When you spray starter fluid in the air cleaner hose it will start, run for a few seconds and shut off again. This is the same thing it did before he replaced the filter and pump. Any ideas on what can be causing this now?
This car has the 3.0 fuel injected motor.

Thank you

Check fuel pressure regulator.
