AC Compressor Bearing
It's been a while since I've been on here. Just haven't been driving the olds too much. Anyways, I drove through a flooded road way a few months ago, aprox 6 inches of flowing water, then 12 inches of standing water. I thought I might float away. But the Intrigue made it thru ok, or so I thought. The next day, I started hearing a loud whining noise from the engine. Then whenever the compress was off, a loud metal-on-metal rubbing sound. I figured that the AC clutch might need lubricated. But the shop is telling me that the bearing in the compressor is shot and that I need a new compressor. I'm trying to turn this one into a comprehensive insurance job if the compressor actually needs to be
replaced. Any advice ?

Re: AC Compressor Bearing
I remember your username welcome back..
Check out a page done by forum member Krivasauto. He has pictures of a full compressor teardown with bearing. Also do a search on Krivasauto Air compressor on this forum for verbage behind it. Bearing does appear to be servicable separate from the compressor, and could be done without opening the AC system, with compressor on the car. Check it out. http://99intrigue.shutterfly.com
