Whats wrong with my car's audio?

I have a custom sound system in my 2002 Civic, it has a Khicker Subwoofer, Alpine Amp, and Kenwood touch screen stereo. Now just today, when I turned it on, the music was extremely faint, I could barely hear it. I could also here a little bit of static and a whining noise coming from the speakers. The whining noise grew louder as my RPMs increase, and as they decreased became quieter. Every now and then the normal audio would come back on, but only for a few seconds at a time. It did this both with the radio, and when my ipod was plugged in, so I know I wasn't just losing signal or my aux. cord wasn't plugged in all the way. Whats up?

Check your grounds on both the head unit and amp. Possibly loose.

Re: Whats wrong with my car's audio?

sounds lik a loose ground or poor power connection to me as well. Is the head unit grounded to ground or to a wire in the harness ?

Check all your connections. Grounds are the easiest to do wrong. If you can't get it figured out, just go down to the basics. I check each piece of equipment. You can pull out your stereo and wire it to the battery or temporarily run some speaker wire/lamp cord from the battery to the stereo for power. If that works, it's the power wires. If that doesn't fix it, you've got a bad stereo.

Re: Whats wrong with my car's audio?

The problem could be the analog or digital cables between the source component(s) and the receiver. Replace the suspect cables and try the source component again.
