What's your favourite/recommended brand of CF decal?
Howdy,
Just wondering what brand of Carbon Fiber decal you guys prefer and recommend? I've never used any, but want to try some for the first time on my BAR kit. Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers, M |

Re: What's your favourite/recommended brand of CF decal?
I like F1 Specialties for the stripey type, Museum Collection for the checkered weave type and SMS for the yellow kevlar weave type. Just to name a few.
They're all different in how they apply so test things out with a variety of decal solutions and figure out what works best for you. For covering complicated surfaces use masking tape to make templates, saves a lot of time in the long run. |

Scale motorsport is the most flexible to work with. not the easiest.
Take a look on ScaleWiki for information about carbon fiber (CF)

SMS
Look in my progress thread to see what SMS and microsol/soft can do.

Thanks for the input guys!
I've been looking up some of the great builds in the forums where people have used CF decals, and I'd like to know how you go about templating the correct shape for the CF decal??? I'm quite clueless when it comes to this... EDIT: Never mind, I just found a HOW TO about it by Freakray. |

Re: What's your favourite/recommended brand of CF decal?
Just bought some SMS CF decals from mediamixhobby, and have another question:
If I place the decal over a white topcoat, is the white likely to show through? Hopefully not... as I'm trying to steer away from painting the area I want to CF black, as it will be a nightmare to mask up. |

the white won't show through. BUT, if you make a mistake, you will see a big white spot.
Better paint black, it will give you more chances

I'm wondering that nobody likes S27 carbon decal. It looks very realistic and easy to use. Also Renaissance is quite good. I also used SMS but (maybe only that sheet) it was too silver for me.

Scale motorsport is excellent stuff, just make sure you have some microsol and set ready. I've tried Renaissance c/f and it was easy to work with but the c/f weave was too large IMO.

SMS.
I've built the SMS '96 bare carbon Porsche test mule, the '97 Evo Porsche in bare carbon fiber and I'm almost finished with my bare carbon fiber (using the "new" 3-d sheets) Enzo. (all in 1:24th) I love the stuff, just make sure to have plenty of Micro-Sol and Micro-Set. You'll need it! Bill

A bit of Scale motorsports and SAS would be my choice...
