Need help removing radio. Plz Help

I am new to this website but I need to know how to remove the radio from my 97 Grand Am GT. I have the left side of the instrument panel removed but the part that goes over the radio wont come off. I don't want to pull on it to hard because I'm afraid of recking something. I was told to remove the accessory trim plate but I don't know what it is and how to remove it. Please help me out.

You probaly have already thought of this but if you grab a haynes amnual or other kind and have a look. They will usually show some pictures of how to dismantle your dash. If you dont want to buy one just go to the library.

Good Luck and enjoy your tunes

radio

Are you sure u removed all the screws, even the two that are in the small compartment u know the little compartment just above the center console? I removed my radio recently to put in a new one, taking off the plastic wasn't really the hard part, it was rewiring the new one. Neways once you get all the screws off just pry it upwards and it'll pop right out of the above plastic dash piece. Just becareful not to pull forcefully on the left side cuz there's a small wire there that's connected to the light dimmer.

If you try to take out the radio before disarming the passlock feature you will regret it. Not only will the old radio never work again in another car but you will set off the theft system and your car will die after a few seconds whenever you try to start it. Get a repair manual, call the service department at the Pontiac dealer and ask for directions or have a professional take it out to prevent trouble. By the way, a lot of radios have locks on the side that require a narrow flat tool to be slid in to disengage the locks before the radio can be slid out. Do this only after understanding that there is a certain combinations of radio buttons to push in a certain sequence before the radio can be removed safely.

Disreguard what greg said. This will not happen with a 97.

Re: Need help removing radio. Plz Help

nope, It will work fine. Just make sure that if you have a red blinking theftlock light on the tape radio when the vehicle is turned off, that you disable the theftlock before removing the radio. Instructions on how to do this are in your owners manual. If your radio has a blinking red light on it when the vehicle is off and you dont remove the theftlock, the next time you connect that radio in your vehicle it will be inoperable until you find the code to disable the theftlock. If your radio does have that red blinking light and you dont remember the code to disable it for you, i can help you look it up.
