Question '89 Suzuki starting problems

This one has me baffled. My technical knowledge is from first had experience only. My sidekick will start when I jump it but runs hard. No matter how long I leave it running when I try to start it again it will click but not start. I had the battery and the alternator checked and both were fine. Is there a chance the parts store was wrong, seems like they would have an incentive to tell me something was wrong. Also if I leave a battery charger on it all night I will have enough charge in the morning.
