P0304 misfire, wont crank.

hello, my parents 99 old intrigue with almost 200k miles on it started sputtering. after pulling over it wouldnt crank over. we got a code P0304, cylinder 4 misfire. the fuel filter, plugs and wires were replaced about 6k miles ago. we pulled the plugs out they were fuel fouled, but each of them was getting a spark. we checked to make sure the plugs were getting fuel from the fuel bleeder valve, and it was. we were thinking of replacing the coil for cylinders 1/4 but dont want to spend the money if that might not be the cause. any help would be appreciated!

Re: P0304 misfire, wont crank.

you can swap the coils 1/4 to 2/3 & see if the miss follows the coil

Re: P0304 misfire, wont crank.

we just tried that, still wouldnt crank, and the ODB found no codes. we reset the code when it first happened, and we can't get a code when we have the coils in the original spots. any other suggestions? perhaps a timing chain?

Re: P0304 misfire, wont crank.

if the engine wont crank you need to start by check the battery, starter, cables ect.
making sure battery is fully charged & the cables are clean tight would be a place to start or do you mean engine cranks over but wont start??

Re: P0304 misfire, wont crank.

it cranks but wont start. we charged the battery, clean non-corroded connecters. the guy at autozone also mentioned that it could possibly be a crank-shaft position sensor or possibly a cam shaft position sensor. ever hear of those going bad and causing a misfire?
