95 Maxima - Timing chain replacement
Just got a tune up of my 95 Maxima GLE with about 120K miles (the odometer stopped working at 100K)...the mechanic said that the timing chain should be replaced every 60K miles....I think this is for the earlier models, but would appreciate a second opinion on this. The car runs well, and the cost of doing this painful! - $1,200 for the kit, and labor, but I'm told it is not done, the engine would be damaged if the chain broke.

Re: 95 Maxima - Timing chain replacement
He meant timing belt. The chain should last forever.

Re: 95 Maxima - Timing chain replacement
I was going to say...
from my understanding, the timing chain should last the life of the car. The belt, on the other hand, should be taken care of with each 60k tune up. You might want to ask your mechanic for clarification on the whoozi-whatzits. |

Definately! Timing chains should last longer than porn stars!
