Struts and shocks

What do you guys think about buying shocks and struts of ebay verses the local parts store, I can get both struts and shocks for the same price off ebay , as I can just get the struts at the local parts store.

Re: Struts and shocks

Well, pay attention to the manufacturer. Getting a great deal on junk parts isn't a great deal.

Also, my go-to source for most everything these days: rockauto.com

Re: Struts and shocks

Last time out I bought the complete package (strut, spring, etc.) from Monroe because much of the strut assembly needed to be replaced and my vehicle was over 250,000 miles with the original everything (including the struts!).

BTW, RockAuto has been good with returns for me, but you still have to wait for the shipments. I once bought a transmission rebuild kit that was missing a bunch of parts, (apparently by "design" because the replacement kits were also missing those parts) and eventually they just sent me the missing parts from their regular stock of individual items. I've also had a window regulator replaced by them during the warranty period. Once I bought a PS rebuild kit that was improperly specified (e.g. the kit did not work on my vehicle) that they worked with the manufacturer to replace with a proper gasket set.

I really like it when the have OEM parts (e.g. Motorcraft or ACDelco) with OEM P/N's for substantially reduced prices. I can usually be sure there won't be problems if the OEM P/N matches the once for my VIN.

RockAuto has great prices, so that's a major advantage of their service. The brick and mortar stores won't match their prices. My biggest issue with RockAuto is that you can't walk into a store, talk to a person face-to-face and resolve the problem quickly. You have to do everything remotely, and therefor it takes much longer to work through problems.

Re: Struts and shocks

For the front, I strongly suggest that you get the "quick" struts.....that include the springs and mounts. Also....still on the front......replace the strut links....with the Moog ones made of metal. I had the nylon ones and they were noisy within a year.

As mentioned above, go with a brand name....worth the extra cost.

You can compare prices on Rockauto and even Amazon.
