i'm not sure if they were imported to the states tho, i think(probably wrong) that they were only in europe legally

Re: First run with the G8...
The one I saw was most likely a grey market import. They are indeed insane cars. Once again proof that the US Automanufacturers hate the US.

Re: First run with the G8...
I would kill for one of those. God, pulling up next to somebody in a Cossie would be hilarious, because Im sure most kids around here have no idea what the hell they are. I didnt until you showed it to me.
I need to show that thing to my friends. 95% are Chevy Nazis and Import Huggers. They all seem to hate Ford... well, show them this sucker and I think they will change their minds. I now have a dream to own one of those little bastards, even if I have to swap it myself. Another example of Ford hating us. Ford Focus ST.

Re: First run with the G8...
it's not that us manufactures hate us,just they dont think that americans would want a small car with the ability to canabalize vettes and mustangs. that would be bad. sure a cosworth probably would run 60g american dollars but still, it's light, and enough power to keep up with porsche's...bad thing for auto.
plus being that it's a ford, in americna eyes, it'll hold no value and in 20yrs u'll have 16yrs olds driving it as their first car, bad idea

Re: First run with the G8...
The actual only reason why is the cost, not the performance. In order for Ford not to be analy raped on bringing over, say, the Focus ST, they would have to charge 45-50k for it. No one is going to buy a Focus for 50k.

Re: First run with the G8...
That aside look at the design of the Euro Focus Vs. the U.S. Focus. The U.S. version looks like ass. Also, they are bringing the Ford Transit over but they are rebuilding it from the ground up with a small Mitsu 4 banger.

Re: First run with the G8...
eh it's not a bad idea to use the mitsu engine. at least it adds something that may, in time prove to last and keep ford from going completely down the drain.
as for the st, no ur right i wouldn't spend 50g on a focus

Re: First run with the G8...
The fact that's a Mitsu isn't the issue. It's the fact that it's under 2L. Who out here driving the Sprinter vans that have diesel engines are going to switch to something with no power and horrible gas mileage to transport things.
Nobody. |

Re: First run with the G8...
i think at this point ford should try anything to kep it from having to have the governement back it. the mustang and f series are way to common. sure they'll add income, but u need better income to invest on new cars/concepts.
if ford feels that the transit will sell and it doesn't, than o well, if it sells than good. i kinda cant wait for a new fiesta tho. put a lil peppy 1.8l in there with like 130hp and make it lightwieght, i'll b taking jumps with what i'll call "my bitch".

Re: First run with the G8...
I just got an image of that and I havent laughed that hard in quite a while.
They should have just realeased the damn things in the US. I would save up for a Cossie over almost anything else American automakers have to offer, simply for the ridonkulousess of it. a 1.8L in a freakin transport vehicle? You have to be kidding me. This is a very good sign the gas craze is going way to far. This will get WORSE mileage as it cant even get out of its own way.

Re: First run with the G8...
losing any of the three big us auto companies, would devastate this countries economy. if the government backs em, than they better just prove that they are capable of good cars, not just midfying the same car over and over.
they have to be creative. hell put a high car out, make as much profit on it. look at it this way, porsche sells cars for i believe(last i read) a 3:1 profit...build a ford for 10g sell it for 40....mite come good of it.

The project is far from axed with them having recently shown a convertible version at the beginning of this year. A version of this car also ran in a VLN 4 hour race at the N'ring sometime earlier this year and won (although dubiously) and also took part in the main 24 hour event later, running and finishing; finishing being a major achievement for essentially a first time try in what is essentially a production car. I don't think even Nissan did that with the GTR-33 at Le Mans which had a more experienced pit team with them. Last I heard, order books are open and aiming for delivery sometime after 2010 but the people I spoke to were cagey about the eventual price. There was another toyota concept that was MR2 sized but involved a rather complex electric motor assistance set up at each wheel but that went away very quickly.

Re: First run with the G8...
Lol at order books being open. Lexus came out and said it didn't meet performance metrics, so they are delaying it (again). 2010? Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it on the roads. They relied far to much on SUV sales, its kiling them now. Good money says Lexus will pull on the LF-A what BMW pulled on the M8. "Not a good market for the car right now", and it will disapear.
