would it work
will it work for me to take a 5spd 318 and drop in an M3 engine without any extensive problems, and where would i find an M3 engine w/ decent milage?

which m3 engine do u want to drop in? i would suppose the 240hp unit from the E36 m3.
i think the best place to find a motor would be from a junk yard. i imagine that if an m3 could still be used, the owner would be reluctant to give it up! good luck finding one. most bimmers are found with head on damage which could possibly damage the block.

its a 99' BMW M3, hit in the rear, i would buy the entire car and fix it but the rear axel looks pretty bad

I was told, from the BMW dealer, that the trans would not be able to handle the power.. you would have to change the motor and trans... it might be faster and cheeper to change the rear axel..
