Glased Kevlar clutch
Hi Guys,
This has been driving me nuts... I had a bad day in traffic a few weeks ago and overheated my clutch and I am pretty sure I have glazed it (it's Kevlar). The reason I think this is the clutch is fine when it's cool, but when it warms up it slips a lot (I can't get enough torque through it to even race an echo). So i have 2 questions: 1) Do I have to take the clutch out to "deglaze" it? 2) If I don't take it out how long would it take to recover (if ever)? Thanks |

Re: Glased Kevlar clutch
If it were organic and it got glazed, then I think it's done for, but Kevlar, I think will be alright, you just need to give it a few days. (I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think I remember reading that somewhere, so somebody else may want to chime in)

Re: Glased Kevlar clutch
Oh man, in that case if it was just a brief thing youd let it cool over night and the next morning it would be fine.
If the problem pressits then yeah Id think its serious. I cooked my clutch a couple of times but the next day it was always fine. if you did glass it you know whats next......

Re: Glased Kevlar clutch
It depends on the definition of "okay"...
When teh clutch is cool it's fine... But if you have a numb foot and let is slip a little too long and it warms up it ends up slipping. It's been a year since I installed the clutch and and this has been the first time it has done it... I think the slipping was going away but I had to bring it into emmissions testing and the technicians have a numb left foot and basically rode the clutch. So far on the net it's has been mixed reviews on how well a Kevlar clutch can recover... Some say it's finished and some say it should recover "slowly". Damn this is annoying... |
