288GTO q?
Hi all
Fairly simple question but keen to know the answer. I already have Revell's 288 GTO in the stash (which I believe is a Protar re-pop, yeah?). It's not a horrible kit but does show it's age. Have noticed on HLJ's site, they have Fujimi's kit of the same car going cheap. So which kit would be a more accurate model of this beauty? |

Re: 288GTO q?
The Fujimi 288GTO is a fantastic kit. BUT... it's an "Enthusiast Model" series kit, featuring a close-to-protoype engine, rear frame, suspension, turbo and exhaust set up, made up of a LOT of parts, none of which have any solid, locked-in, engineered fit. I've built one -- it looked great when it was finished, but my word it was a pain to get the back end set up properly.
The Italeri (not Protar...) kit is described here: http://italianhorses.net/gallery/ita...ital288gto.htm The Fujimi here: http://www.modelersite.com/Oct2002/E...288GTO_Eng.htm This is my Fujimi build-up: To be honest, if you already have an Italeri, I wouldn't go out and buy the Fujimi, unless you want to build it all opened up... Just my 0.02C worth... bestest, M. |

Re: 288GTO q?
Thanks Matt. FWIW, the engine bits of the Revell kit don't inspire me a whole lot either. Typical old-school Italeri/Protar soft details. )The Fujimi kit is only USD16-odd (like AUD20-ish) at HLJ so may throw the card at it just for the sake of some sharper details & make 1 good one from 2.
Your model looks awesome btw |

Re: 288GTO q?
Seamus,
I'm pretty sure Fujimi's recent 288GTO reissue is a "dumbed down" version in their RS-Real Sports car series ...... Meaning it is a curbside but body and interior are still used from the really nice EM kit. It also explains the lower price. Regards, Dan **EDIT** although the instructions show it as a curbside, it looks like the engine parts are still in the box too. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10341030z5/70/5 Regards, Dan

Re: 288GTO q?
At that price, the Fujimi is a steal! I'd certainly try to get hold of a scan of the full instructions if you're going to build the engine, though... it's not a "no-brainer", believe me...
