Where are you on the other side of the world

Ever wonder if you dug a hole where you are at where it would lead to on the other side of the world?

Interesting website does this.

You click your home location and it shows you where your hole (the one you dug, not your hole ) will show up on the other side of the world.

I click on my home in NYC and ended up about 300 miles southwest of Australia. I guess Oz will have to come by boat to pick me up out of the water.

I also put in my other favorite place, Hawaii, and it ends up in Botswana, Africa. Pretty cool

So members, where are you on the other side of the world.
Post up.

Re: Where are you on the other side of the world

I'd be in the general area as you would too from Syracuse. I don't know but for some reason looking at the flat map and trying to vision it in a circle, I would've figured I'd end up near Mongolia.I thought I'd end up in the Northern Hemisphere seeing that is where I currently am.

Mongolia? I enter Syracuse NY and i ends up further south of my position near Australia. Now the upper part of the white text box is near Mongolia, but the actual dot is not.

That's pretty neat. From Hampton VA, I ended up SW of Australia.

Yeah, I end up near your spot seeing as we're not too far from each other here in NY, but if you look at the map in it's flat state of appearance and try to envision it in a circle like a globe it would seem Mongolia would be a more appropriate location. Australia seems too far south to be correct. I understand the angle of drilling and everything,it just seems that there is a good sized angle going into the Earth judging by where you end up.

From Chicago I would end up in the ocean of the coast of Somalia or somewhere close. Interesting.

Re: Where are you on the other side of the world

To dig a hole to China you would have to start in the South Pacific off the coast of Chile.

Not surprising considering most American can't read a map. Looks like you're just like everyone else.

The earth isn't round. Centrifugal force from spinning makes the center stick out further, which sucks down the poles. We're more of an oval than a circle.

Where would we be today without that valuable information...
