About 2 years ago. It was when they released the GTR Nur spec. That had 500hp or so. The Nur spec was the first, and I am pretty sure only, car to breach the 206kw limit. That was the last hurrah for the GTR and becasue the R34 was going out of production the did a limited run of the Nur specs from factory, purely because they could.

They got rid of the limit so they could release high end cars to compete with the likes of Ferrari and such. They knew they wanted to re release the GTR and supra and NSX etc, and 206kw wasn't going to cut it in todays market. Pretty much every single other car released out of Japan is still rated at 206kw. EVOs, STi, 350Z.... all 206kw.

And I am not sure if its supposed to be at the crank or wheels but I would be guessing crank. But we all know they are lieing anyway

Re: New 99 GTO Black

yea but also think, the 350 and the evo really only have around 290hp so really not that far off of 276. the sti is only 293 not the most commonnly thought 300
i think the nsx type-r breeched that limit too.
i do have a question involving the agrrement, was that all car's 4,6 or 8, could could go above 206 or just the 6 cyld. cause now just about every acura 8cyl and lexus 8 beats that, yes i both those cars are now sold in japan under those name plates.
in fact the only company who never shipped their luxery car her ewas mazda(eunos). the only thing that comes close would b the infini(or watever) rx7 from the late 80's.
by here i mean the usa

Re: New 99 GTO Black

well one other main reason for the repeal was that the limitation was on japanese cars only. Cars imported into japan were not effected. In 1988 or 1990 when it wnet into effect, 280 was a pretty massive and uncommon number. but think of all the cars that commonly have 300+ hp today (Porsches, BMWs, Mercs)

im a sense they were only crippling their own auto industry.
