60k?

for you guys that have done a 60k...did you pull the radiator? The walkthrough i looked at on vr4stealth.com recommended it, but it seems like overkill to me.

also, anyone have a timing tensioner pulley tool i can buy/rent/borrow? home made worked for the cam lockers, but i dont think i can make this one. I would just buy one, but the fact that 3sx wants $20 seems rediculous...and that they wanted $12 for shipping just F****** pissed me off...

i dont really think people in the 3/s community should rip each other off like that. we have enough adversity to overcome.

Re: 60k?

Screw the tensioner tool. I have never used one. As for the rad you should be able to get by by just removing the rad fan. It gives you better clearance to remove the altenator.

Re: 60k?

<--- didn't use a tensioner tool. Instead I used a wrench to hold the pulley in place while tightening it.

Just wedged it up between the pulley and the tensioner arm. Grant it, the engine was out of the car so it made it easier to do.

Re: 60k?

3SX rips you off every chance they get. don't support their business practice by purchasing anything from them.

i've used allen wrenches in the tensioner pulley holes, then rotate it with a screwdriver. but i recommend the tensiner pulley tool made by Schley Prodcuts (more info here). you can get it for $16 shipped, GREAT design, and much more durable than the 3SX tool that breaks all the time.

somebody on 3SI sells one pretty cheap too. I've heard good things about it.

Re: 60k?

yea i saw that one too. similar in design to the 3sx one, but $10.

anyways...ive ran into a problem. Just when im feeling like im making some progress, too. I'll skip making a new thread becasue it still falls under this subject.

I cant get the freaking crank pully off. From what ive read, most impact guns aren't strong enough, so i skipped trying one and went right to the bump the starter method. So...what if thats not strong enough either? I even tried it with a jump box hooked up to the battery for a little extra kick.

Im gonna have my dad bring his impact over and give it a shot, only becasue im out of ideas.

anyone have any advice?

Re: 60k?

that's odd. i bet it didn't work because you've NEVER had the crank pulley off before AND the bolt is much tighter than spec. but decent impact wrench should have no problem removing the bolt.
