~ Gas Pedal HARD to Push ~
What's up gang!
I have another thing I am scratching my head about and have no idea where to start. On my "project" 1995 Honda Civic the gas pedal is very stiff and hard to press down on it. In fact, it's so bad our daughter claims she can't even "floor" the pedal when she drove it. I'm not kidding, it's very stiff so what causes this and how would I go about fixing it? I can press it down all the way to the floorboard, but it's not easy to drive, trust me. Your foot gets tired after a few miles. |

Check the linkage at the throttle body. If it's easy to open and close the throttle by hand, then in the cabling. If stiff there, butterfly may be sticking with crud in the throat.

And please check this out before you let her (or anyone) continue to drive the car. If it's difficult due to either the butterfly, the cable, or the throttle pedal hinge, there's a chance it could stick in an open position.

Re: ~ Gas Pedal HARD to Push ~
Throttle body looks fine, no sticking from what I see. I also cleaned the throttle body area with spray meant for that process regardless. When I depress the throttle body assembly where the spring is it feels pretty resistant, but not sure what the specs on that should be. This one is a tough one for me because I don't have the experience to know what feels "normal" if that makes sense. After cleaning everything maybe it's my imagination, but the gas pedal doesn't seem to be as difficult to press down. I was just looking for recommendations on what types of things I could check so thank you. I'll keep an eye on things.

Re: ~ Gas Pedal HARD to Push ~
I'm wondering if you've just grown used to DBW throttle bodies and don't remember how stiff cable throttle bodies actually are. I know the time I had drove my 3000gt in years the TB felt extremely stiff because I had only driven DBW cars over the past 8 years, but after driving it more it felt more normal.
