Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.

Re: Your Car Audio System

Bassworx for me. Their stuff is awesome. Changing out my old Blaupunkt system to a complete Bassworx system. It's gonna be LOUD Blaupunkt Key West MP36 (staying) Blaupunkt GT4 Special 750 Watt 4 Channel AB amp Blaupunkt PCw1000 x2 Blaupunkt THx 352 x2 Dash speakers Kicker Rear components in place of AC Delco 4x10s Nothing really special and pretty crappy SPL Changing to Bassworx 500.1D amp Bassworx 1200.3D x2 subs (i think) Bassworx pre-made ported box Nice system and should be good SPL

Re: Your Car Audio System

My system cost me $4000 total, it's in a 1996 Chrysler LHS and consists of:

Chrysler Infinity AM Stereo (yes there are still AM Stereo stations out there), FM Stereo, Tape, CD Player Head Unit with a 3 Band EQ

Chrysler Infinity Spacial Imaging Amplifier of unknown total wattage in the trunk

2 Chrysler Infinity 6" x 9" Co-axial Speakers in the rear shelf

2 Chrysler Infinity 5 1/2" Mid Bass, 1 in each front door panel

2 Chrysler Infinity 3" Midrange/Tweeters, 1 at each end of the front dash panel

1 Chrysler Infinity 1 1/2" Tweeter in the center of the front dash panel

1 very clean 1996 Chrysler LHS thrown in at no extra charge!

For a totally factory sound system it sounds awesome never heard a better sounding one unless it was the same setup in a Concorde, Intrepid, or Eagle Vision, loud enough to be heard from a distance even with the windows closed, an imaging soundstage that is a pleasure to listen to with very detailed mids and highs, and enough bass to be felt in your back and blurr the rear view vision in the mirrors even with the EQ set at flat across the bandwidth.

Sure I can toss in my Pioneer DEH-P77DH Exact Fit Head Unit in the dash and get even better sound from it but for a stone stock factory setup, it's pretty darn nice sounding and loud enough for my needs, won't win any dB awards but i don't care about those kind of things anyhow, like someone else said in the thread, SPL contests are just for bragging rights for those who spend megabucks for the right to brag that insanely high dB number.

Ok, laugh if you want to, but for me this is one of those rare instances where the factory did such a bang up job with an audio system to make it good enough that a person who does enjoy audio SQ along with decent SPL would not want to change anything about it.

Re: Your Car Audio System

You can't really say there is a brand that is the best. there are all different types of products out there and some of them do things better than others. I do agree that there are worthless, don't waste your money on em' brands. (Sony, those thin paper coned "subs" with the different color surrounds at flea markets everywhere ). I never like answering questions like that b/c it all depends on your prefrence.

Re: Your Car Audio System

Anyway, I am running

JVC KD-SH99 Head
MTX RT402? amp rated 40x2 actually 59x2
Infinity refrence 6 1/2 componants
JBL BP 300.1 Sub amp
Infinity Refrence 12" DVC sub

All in all it sounds really good. Great spl, good clarity.
I would put its SQ up against just about anything(except the really top end stuff). The best part is I was able to get some good deals, so I only spent about $600 on the whole thing.

Il go against it, im waiting for a chance to get the SPL checked again ive made a few changes

Its been awhile il post my new list

2-15" ascendant audio Atlas
9.5 cuft ported to 28 hz, rhino liner on the inside
2x autotek MM75.4 one for subs and one for the fronts
6.5 re-re audio comps
panasonic cq-dfx983u
120sqft of secondskin dampifier, 50 sg ft luxury mat
0 gauge knu conceptz wire, knuconceptz rca's, 12 gauge speaker wire, 10 guage subwoofer wire(overkill).
0 gauge big three
dual optima red tops
standard output alt (lights will not dim)

All this in an 89 s10 blazer.

i hit just under 140db with no sound deadener, the box was not coated, had 4 guage wire, and 12 gauge for all speakers. II should be able to hit around 145-147, maybe higher.
