direct wire for radar detector

Hello all,

My car is just great! So fun and so great its crazy!

I'ts been over a week now and its already time to start breakin it

I've got a radar detector and i currently use the cig lighter, but i have the direct wire kit and tonite a friend and i got it all setup.

Tomorrow we're bringin in a voltage checker to find a suitable wire to tap into.

This is going to be attached to either 1 of the bundles of wires in the right windshield/doorframe panel, or all the way under the glovebox above the vents (man is this car built tight!).

Anyone have any suggestions on where to connect, any wires to avoid etc.

Basically looking for a wire that has no current when the car is off, and enough voltage when the car is running.

Thanks,

PCH

Correct Wires!!

I have done that I would very strongly suuggest avoiding all wires in any bundle! BMW are very sensitive. On the cars I did I ran the wire to my cig plug wires directly. You will most likely need to remove your console, but it will be worth the trouble. The nice part about doing this is that your cig. plug is usually the only thing on the circuit and if there is a problem, nothing important gets messed up. Also you can put a push button switch in a knock out and make it look like your detector is factory and be able to turn it on and off (your cig plug is usually not controlled by the ignition) Trust me this is the safest bet and you can still use you cig lighter if you just use t-taps on the wires.
