Re: Can you tell the Year of Accord by the Vin #
For all vehicles after 1980, the tenth digit is the year. That year it started with A. It goes thru the alphabet then starts numbers in 2001 thru 2009, then back to alphabet and will be 1 thru 9 again in 2031. The alphabet skips I, O, Q, U and Z. This is so they aren't misread as 1, 0, 0, V and I would have thought S would be excluded to not confuse with 5, but they don't have Z. You are correct N is 1992. (I know this is an older post, but I was trying to find out this information myself and thought this was a good place to post)

Re: Can you tell the Year of Accord by the Vin #
They don't use the Z for the year so that when the numbers are in use they are a match for the corresponding year. So they had to reduce the alpha's by one more than those they already don't use.
