Audi Quattro S1 Beemax
Hello everyone, here is new Quattro model from Beemax. Overall is very nice with good fit. I will use PE set also from Beemax (tobacco decals were hidden inside) together with few rivets.
Gap between fenders and wheel arches was quite notticable so I decided to fix it with some PS sheets. This vent was opened After some bad experiences I decided that I will prepare wires before model is painted. Majority of parts are painted:

Re: Audi Quattro S1 Beemax
Update after a while, as it usually is, it's not going as smoothly as expected.
My suggestion to someone building this model is to cut seat belts longer than is written in instructions. Unfortunately I did notice that too late and now they are a bit short. Also I can't put spare wheel because of seat belts Before I've got the model I thought it would be easy to paint yellow parts of livery, but what I noticed is that there are 4 narrow yellow strips and one black strip around whole body which would be pain to mask. Other problem is that Zero paint for this model didn't match decals and some sponsors are printed directly on yellow decal, so if someone wants to paint livery it will be necessary to cut them out. That's the reason I decided to mix new paint and paint the model only partially on spots where different decals need to join.

Really nice progress To-mek! Looking great! Thanks for pointing out the weaknesses of the kit! The seat kevlar looks superb, what did you use for that?

Re: Audi Quattro S1 Beemax
What paint did you mix to paint the yellow parts?

Re: Audi Quattro S1 Beemax
It is Zero yellow for Audi Quattro with few drops of Zero red for Ferrari 1970s - 1980s F1 cars. From pictures found on internet both Zero paint and decals look right but when you put them next to each other there is some difference.

Re: Audi Quattro S1 Beemax
looking great To-mek,
Questions, what do you use for glue for the seat belts? I use super glue but the webbing soaks up so much glue the belts become stiff and change to a darker color where the glue is. are you going to use the photoetch for the grills? I didn't use them when I built mine. thought the kit parts looked just fine. thanks Paul |

Re: Audi Quattro S1 Beemax
I was using Loctite Super Bond and I have to agree that you have only one chance to glue end of seatbelt or otherwise they will become too stiff.
I totally forgot to test UHU 2 component epoxy glue which I use for white metal and PE parts. That glue is execellent, extremely strong, flexible and won't leave white marks. Additionaly it is in gel form so there is less risk for mistakes.

Re: Audi Quattro S1 Beemax
I use 2mm double sided tape for seat belt assembly. Much easier than cyno. Purchased on ebay, the tape has red backing film.
Sticks well and doesn't come undone. Keep up the great work on this superb kit. |
