Unhappy

Hi, I'm new to cars and I have a stupid question to ask:

If I think the auto tranny computer is too stupid, can I get a new manual tranny in?

I will be forever grateful for an answer

There are no stupid questions. Just assholes!

To answer your question, yes!

To detail your question, if you're tired of the automatic or feel like the auto is not performing the way you'd like, then there are two ways to achieve performance.

Option 1: Get a chip installed. It will enhance your cars performance and you can tailor the shift point to your liking.

Option 2: This could get ugly if not done by a professional or at least someone with a clue. Swap the tranny in your car for a manual tranny. When doing this, be prepared to drop at least $1000 and up, depending on where you go and the experience of the people that do it. This option while simple to choose, is a little timely and costly. Basically, it depends on you and what you want to do.

a chip? what kind of chip? Like where and how much? How would I install it?

Also, if I want to get a manual tranny, how long would it take?

By the way the car's a 95 Mitsu Galant, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Chip: Any performance enhancing chip. Venom, etc as an example. Inquire at your local newstand and get a car mag. Import tuner, whatever and research.

Manual Tranny: Depends on who's doing the work. Could take between a day or two, again, depends on who you get to do it. How reliable they are. But should not take long.

As for your platform, not for nothing, but Galants are not really good at all when it comes to modding. Not a good aftermarket support for it. You have better chances with an eclipse than a galant. Hope that helps.

Oh, and the chip, it's really more for the engine than the tranny. It basically changes how the engine performs, meaning, air/fuel ratio, timing, rpms, etc. You have to research though to find out exactly what you are looking for and want to get.

You can reprogram your computer to change shift points and how violently (quickly, but more rough) they tranny engages. And you need a tranny that will work with your engine. If the factory has a manual for that engine, that is simple, otherwise prepare to look.
Good Luck
