Ferrari F430 GT2 AF Corse 1/24 -24h Le mans 2007
Meanwhile I am waiting from Hiroboy some carbon fiber decals to go on with my BMW I want to show u a work I am happy I completed.
From my stop for this waiting till today I had to finish 6 models, and actually I am scratchbuilding a prototype car for alfa romeo in 1/43. If interested I can start other new threads, but think maybe u like more 1/24 cars, just let me know. This is the 430GT2 used by AF corse in the le mans 24 hours race in 2008,driven by Ben Aucott, Joe Macari and Adrian Neway (yes, that Adrian Neway). The AF corse is a small company near Piacenza (nord Italy) racing FIA-Gt class vehicles. Usually this car is painted in red,but this special one was imho too nicer cause used the red bull blue livery only for the LM 24 hours, and I love blue cars (actually I love blue in general ) Looking around I didnt find any model I liked about the gt2 version,I know studio 27 makes some versions, but they are actually hybrids between the 2006 and the 2007 version. Italian Tecnomodel announced years ago a 24th scale car, that never come to life (at 2010, still nothing. Shame cause teh 575 was a nice model) Being also quite simple to modify the standard 430 into the gt2 version I used the Challenge done by Fujimi. At my start I still didnt decided for any final livery, cause was not so sure of the final result. We will see the adventure to finish this model. I started taking the fujimi body and placing the first points where start modify the front end and the bumper of the 430. An old box of a porsche 956 from tamiya is sleeping behind me, this will be the time to take some parts from that model....as the nacas from its tail and the main wing. I started placing the biggest naca duct into the nose of the 430, and using plasticard (0.75mm) I made the lower part of the front bumper

Re: Ferrari F430 GT2 AF Corse 1/24 -24h Le mans 2007
here we go:
now is time to give correct shape to the fornt of this geetee2,to do this I used 0.75mm plasticard sheet styrene nearly for all, and also cuted the door line cause the gt2 has a different wheel arch in the front end. The main body remains the standard one (so dunno why many producers made a wider body in the rear part...doh). Also think will be cool to open a door (driver side) to show the cockpit when the model will be finished. It is really too better work on very thin plastics as Fujimi one, much better than work over diecast (as BMW) where u can only have a curbside model. The gt2 also has 2 little holes near the front lights, they should be extra air intake for brakes. The duct were made in palstic (I took theme from the thin plastics u find in kid drinks)

Re: Ferrari F430 GT2 AF Corse 1/24 -24h Le mans 2007
the rear part of the gt2 has different lower extractor and also both the exhausts arrive in a different point than the Challenge version.
To do this I cutted all the lower part of the chassis and remade the extractor with some aluminium coming from a can.The grille hiding the exhaust was coming from a remaining part, not a PE cause they are mostly bidimensional, and I wanted something little more 3d for this effect. The lateral air intakes (with grilles) have a different shape, and look bigger in size. With some tamiya rod I also build the engine part of the roll cage, also here, different from street versions. After some finishing work on the front end we are ready for the first coat of grey primer...

Re: Ferrari F430 GT2 AF Corse 1/24 -24h Le mans 2007
The car used by this team has a bigger couple of extra lights in the front bumper. If u look carefully the real pics I posted short before u can see the 2 yellow ones down there are different.Think this is only on this vehicle.
I used some extra lights coming from Tron 1/43 accessories detail set. I also started to plan the custom made decal sheet, using bare metal decal film....will they fit with white and yellow letters over a dark metallic blue surface?..we will see..

Looking good so far, I love this car and Im glad to see somebody doing it. However, the NACA duct on the hood looks a little too large, other than that the modifications look great!

Re: Ferrari F430 GT2 AF Corse 1/24 -24h Le mans 2007
Thank u guys.
Yes, the Naca duct is a too little big, but I like the shape Tamiya gave to this part over Porsche's tail. On the gt2 it looks anyway ok for me, so I keep it.I love to cut and paste, u know The next step is try to remould the main rear wing.Even from that scrapped 956 I took the main wing (u still can read the Rothmans letters on it), and shortened it to the correct size. The biggest problem here was to give the correct S section to its front. To do this I cutted the last part and heated a little the plastic, refixing it 2 mm lower for each side, using super glue and some milliput. Then I start also to fix the differences between the Challenge's roll cage shape and the FIA GT2 spec ones. Those last are quite bigger and have 2 big X tube to protect the doors side. All was redone using my beloved Evergreen sheet styrene (they shall give an Oscar to Evergreen.Without such, nearly no way to modelling for me ) ...always sorry for my english guys. It is terrible and I know.Just I hope u can understand what my brain wanna tell u

Are you going to widen the fenders like the real GT2 has?

Re: Ferrari F430 GT2 AF Corse 1/24 -24h Le mans 2007
what do U mean?
I made the real GT2s for a company I worked with in 2006. The body panels are exactly the same of the street version, it is only the front wheel archs that are little different and wider. The rest of the main body is the same. Studio 27 made it wider also in the back, but thats a mistake.Check carefully the pics and u will see that (again I talk of the REAR fenders) check it out here http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/19/f...ngers-in-2008/
