1991 ford escort starts but wont stay running (please help)
i have a 1991 ford escort pony i w driving it fine all day then all a sudden i stopped to get water the car died when it did i tried to restart it , it bogged out and didnt start i waited a hr it started idled for 20 mins reved it up everything seemed ok but then i went to actually drive it i got 1/3 of a mile if that and it died on the side of the road with my lil daughter in the car and 104 degrees outside. me and my father thought it was a furl fliter or pump but in the primer valvei t has plenty of fuel and pressure. anyone know what it could be? please let me know asap thank you so much its my only way back and forth to work and i drive 40 miles one way.

Did it lose coolant in this process? If you had to add water to it, I could suspect a bad headgasket. And did the car have enough gas in the fuel tank, enough water to be visible in the filler neck under the radiator cap, and enough transmission fluid in it?
A way to check for a leaking headgasket, is to remove the radiator cap (with the engine cold or at least not hot), and start the engine. If you see bubbles coming up in the coolant right away - its likely a leaking headgasket. |
