Fender Flares
We all have seen the HUGE fender flares that Aromocki runs. I have a set of those and they are just way too large unless you are planning on widening your track front and rear. I was going to modify those flares but Wes Werling came up with a much smaller and nicer solution.
Attached is a picture of his car with them installed. I got my set and will work on installing them over the next couple of weekends (I have a Vegas trip coming up and I dont race in the heat of summer in south Florida so I am not in a rush). I will post pictures when I get it done. Wes has molds and can easily set you up if you want a set. Check them out:

Re: Fender Flares
Thannks for the post Brian. The picture is from Laguna Seca, so the flares have been race tested. If any one would like a set you can reach me at 619-559-0968 or werling@aol.com

Re: Fender Flares
OK...still have some fitment to do with the plastic gasket/trim but they are basically installed. To remove the hood you undo a screw (like the hood screws) and the flares go with the hood. I have not raced with them yet but soon enough..... These are easily reproduced and the fit was pretty good. I might not paint them...cant decide

Re: Fender Flares
Brian. I think the flares look good on your car in black.

Re: Fender Flares
Hey man, that looks pretty sharp! Of course I'm not looking at the live product but it looks like the black is going to match the black curvy stripes painted on the car. I like em. I guess that bottom attachment is actually a threaded pin so you can get the hood off?

Re: Fender Flares
ok....I think black it is....no painting or vinyl...I like it! :-)
The bottom attachment is a Southco fastner like the GTS uses on the trunk and upper hood attachments.

Re: Fender Flares
Yes....first pictures shows them taped on. Cutting and installing this weekend. Need to try and help oil temps at Daytona. With the car on the rev limiter oil temps climbed to 260 and I started feathering which cost me the win. If I could get some extra help that would be nice plus I think they will add some downforce which cant hurt.

Re: Fender Flares
Flares look great Brian. What are the louvres you are using?
Also on my to do list now we are clocking 250+kph down the straights at my local track and pushing oil temp up around 240 - 260 degs (swapped to Royal Purple synthetic now as a result). Will be interested to see if you pick up any down force. Perhaps a duct from the base of the radiator deflecting airflow up towards the louvres would also help. On another note (no pun intended) we hit 108db on the sound meter with the new engine so in the middle of installing some custom race mufflers. Real tight squeeze as doing in twin 3" down the passengers side and mufflers are 22" long. Kel. Quote:

Re: Fender Flares
What type of lower deflector do you think I should make? Considering I ran almost 300kph (182mph confirmed) at daytona my engine temps where climbing. My engine builder says 280deg. is ok with 4 gallons of mobil 1 15w-50 but he is biased (sure break the motor and bring it to me to rebuild for you).

Re: Fender Flares
Best I could find searching the internet. I had found other stuff with larger vents but they were all just too large.
I got 2 pairs of medium hi-flow louvers from: http://www.hoodlouvers.com/products.html IF I channel the incoming radiator air up to the hood vents then wont that reduce the engine cooling since the air isn't flowing into the engine? My water temps have never been a problem. The surgery is going to happen today I think....so not much time to turn back.

Re: Fender Flares
In order to vent the air out of the radiator there should be an opening at the front lower portiion of the hood close to the point where the hood slides under the front bumper, some type of sheet metal or alum would do the trick it should go from the bottom of the rad. to the bottom side of the hood wherre the opening is located. Many race cars have this type of opening, look at a currrent GT-Ford for example or many of the Can Am cars or IMSA cars. Air coming into the engine compartment thur the radiator acts as a parachut, it needs to exit some where. Just my opinion.
