Buying a car: 330i vs Genesis Coupe

Hey forum
,
I'm new and my father and i were wondering on this for a quite a long time.

So the situation is im debating between a 23,000$ used 2006 BMW 330i Sports package or a new Genesis coupe base model 2.0t for 26000$ out the lot.

Please consider the price, mpg, company reliability, warranty, etc stuff like that.

Thanks for any of the help.

P.S. the mileage on the 330i is 38k

Re: Buying a car: 330i vs Genesis Coupe

The new Genesis is a lot of car for the money, and unless you want the status of a BMW you are getting a lot of what makes the BMW a good car (sporty, stylish, handling and power) in a newer, more reliable package.

First off you will have a 5-year warranty if you buy the Hyundai, so no major repair bills until your payments are done (assuming you're financing). If you buy the BMW, there is no warranty other than corrosion, so if something goes you're not only paying for your car but now to fix it as well. And BMW's, as with all premium German cars, command a hefty premium at the shop.

I was impressed to find the fuel mileage numbers for these two cars are almost identical, kudos for BMW for having such an efficient motor. That being said, I would imagine the turbo Genesis would feel 'punchier' with the addition of a turbo, giving you a lively boost around town that might make it feel more entertaining. It also offers slightly more torque than the Bimmer. I'm not sure on this but you will likely be looking at premium fuel for the BMW and regular-grade for the Hyundai, but having a turbo you'd be wise to do a synthetic oil change, probably also recommended on the BMW.

This is a really tough comparison, you are looking at two very good cars. The best advice I can give is drive them both back-to-back, see what suits your tastes better. You can't go wrong - the BMW is going to be in great shape with such low mileage, its built well and has already gone through its depreciation so you're not taking a big hit on the purchase price...you can always sell a used 3-series for good coin, even when you sell it again. The Genesis Coupe is the best car in Hyundai's lineup, and arguably the most attractive. Its got the power of the BMW and it has the peace of mind of a big warranty, although you'd be giving up some of the finesse and smoothness of the Big German.

Tough call. Post when you make a decision (with a photo!).

Thanks boss

Yeah today I'm going to go test both of them out and going to decide soon, since I'm on a tight schedule.

I appreciate the input from an outside party.

I have been intrigued by the Genesis as well and the more reading I do on it, the better the car is sounding. Also, why are you having to pay 26K for the base 2.0? That number should be closer to 22K, at least where I live (Orange County, CA). For 26K you might be able to get the base V-6 Genesis, which only loses about a mile or two per gallon.

Whether you choose the Motor Werks or the Genesis I think you will get a good car.

Re: Buying a car: 330i vs Genesis Coupe

go with the BMW, I garuntee that in 2 years you'll be satisfied. the value on the Genisis is gona drop 5-8k the second yu sign that last sheet, not because its a bad car but because thats how new cars work. But if you get the BMW ask the dealer about an extended warrenty on it, it may set you back about 3-4k but it'll save you much more if you have to replace any major parts.

P.S. with the BMW you can probaly get them down to a flat 20,000 or close to it, good luck if you havent gotten it already

I generally fall in love with another car before Im ready to buy and learn all about it, and when its time just buy that. You could say I consider all other cars or nothing else, depending on your perspective.

I've been selling cars for 10 years, and even though the Korean cars are stepping up from what they used to be, you really need to check out the resale values of them because they really suck. Sure, the warranty is good, but you will be upside down in that car BIG TIME for the entire time you are driving it. As far as the BMW goes, much better choice, but think about cost of maintenance and repairs a couple years down the line. For $25k, you have a lot of options.

Re: Buying a car: 330i vs Genesis Coupe

Newer Hyundai cars (2000+) seem to be well built and are holding up mechanically, but like recent posters have said you may be upside-down on your payments. If you drive your cars as long as you can (like me) it doesn't matter - but if you habitually turn in your cars at the 3-year mark, it could be bad news.
