'99 CRV misfire (P300, P1399, P303, P304) engine codes

My 99 crv recently started displaying the misfire engine codes. I've replaced the plugs, rotor and cap and wires with no luck. It seems to only do it when its a cold start - as post repairs and garage kept it works fine. Also, once the engine warms it runs great and typically when I clear the codes they only return shortly after I start driving the car. Any ideas?

BTW - it coil was showing good secondary resistance (withing range) but the primary resistance was high (1 ohm at 55 degrees F) - but that matched the new one I bought but have not yet installed.

Re: '99 CRV misfire (P300, P1399, P303, P304) engine codes

I had missfires with my 98 CR-V did the tune up stuff and no luck finnaly took to dealer and he adjusted the valves and every thing was fine after. They told me the exhaust valves were out of adjustment and on cold starts wern't closing all the way, when hot the expansion took up the gap and it ran good.

Re: '99 CRV misfire (P300, P1399, P303, P304) engine codes

i have exactly the same problem 99 crv 135000.
engine running rough , vibrate , pulled the code P1399 .cleared and keep come back.
so far i have done cleaning on throttle body , IAC,FIT, spark plug, fuel filter,
spark plug ,wire, distributor cap, o2 sensor ,still the problem exist.
this saturday will check the ignition distributor and do valve adjustment like jgr7 did.

Mine turned out to be a bad distributor (or more appropriatly a bad sensor in the distributor). I had it replaced and the valves re-adjusted (tune up) and all is fine with the world again.

clean the injection sysytem.
still didn't solve the problem.but this time only appeared p1399 with flashing CEL no other code.
test drive and felt like the lack of power.
will do the compression test for each cylinder.
also test map sensor as i read from another forum.

Re: '99 CRV misfire (P300, P1399, P303, P304) engine codes

ok so i have a 04 si and it has 17500 miles on it.
it's been misfiring #3 for a few weeks.
it's been to the dealer 3 times first time "they found nothing wrong"
next time they "found oil in the coilpack" so they replaced the sparkplug tube gaskets.
third time they switched the #1 and #3 fuel injectors and got a lean #1 cel.
today i got the car back from the third time and it is still misfiring only at start up.
as soon as the cel comes back on i'm gonna bring it back to the dealer but i'm just wondering about the valve adjustment, the engine was making a ticking noise, and being the home honda tech i grabbed my long a$$ flat head screwdriver and held it to the head on #1,#2,#3,#4 and guess what i heard the ticking coming from the #3 cyl. so i'm searching around on many auto forums i belong to and i come across this thread and jgr7 said

thanks in advance.

Re: '99 CRV misfire (P300, P1399, P303, P304) engine codes

I just had my head re-machined at the machine shop(burned exhaust valves cylinder 4) and re-installed my head. Unfortunately, I am getting P1399 engine misfire and it comes up almost right away after turning on the engine. I'm not getting any of the p300 codes that points to a specific cylinder. Does anyone now for sure if this is a timing issue because I have had a hard time getting the cams to align perfectly with the crank pointing to the TDC mark on the engine. It is either 1 tooth forward or 1 tooth behind(usually 1 tooth behind. If I attempt to put the crank directly on the TDC mark and the intake cam exactly UP(pointing up) the tooths on the timing belt have a hard time lining up and I end up trying to pull the belts onto the teeth. In addition, when I start tightening the belt with by tighteing the tensioner, the cams will move backward since the tensioner is pulling the slack behind the intake cam resulting in the cams being slightly behind the crank when it is pointing at the TDC marker. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anyone know how tight the timing belt should be? The tighter, the more the cams get pulled backward.
