opel parts?

I am restoring a 1971 Opel Gt 1.9L for my brother and I can't find an engine oil dip stick anywhere. I'm kinda stuck cause I don't want to start the engine with out knowing how full the oil is. I'm going to do an oil change first and not sure how much to put in so I need the dipstick to get a good reading. I figured 4 qrts would be enough. But I would feel better knowing for sure. My son is restoring one - a 1970 model GT with the 1.9. It was in fairly decent shape when he bought it. His has the aftermarket Weber deuce on it, instead of the troublesome Solex carb. Biggest challenge has been finding decent front brake calipers for it. The brake system on the car was in bad shape, and, one front caliper was frozen solid. He found a couple of internet sites that have replacement parts, and, has found some of the stuff he needs (manuals, factory radio, etc.) on Ebay. These cars are very prone to rust,but, most of it on this car is confined to the battery box area in the nose. Suggest you dig up a repair manual to guide you, some of the things you can screw up on this car are very expensive. Check the OPEL GT club site on the internet - they have some very helpful tech tips - like how to modify the lighting wiring circuit so the car doesn't catch fire, and, vacumn diagrams for the engine. Its a beautiful car, and, attacts a lot of attention. The stock engine makes a little over 100 hp and is supposed to run on premium gas. Check out the specs before you change the oil, I seem to remember my son telling me it held a little over 3 qts. of oil. Watch your budget while restoring one of these - its very easy to get way more money in one than it'll bring if you decide to sell it.

Thanks for the reply. Good info you gave me. Yeah part's aren't all that expensive it's finding the parts that we are having a hard time with. I've ck'ed out the OPEL GT club site. I'll have to maybe get a little more involved with it though.

opelgt.com and check search for dipsticks I own 7 of these cars so far 4 running other 3 are in process of being rebuilt. Just be sure when you get your dipstick it is the correct one the one for the alunimum oil pan is different than the metal oil pan.
