This car is so underrated

This is THE fastest car in this universe and people treat it like another Ferrari (no offense Italia drivers). They don't understand that it isn't a normal car, because it's not. So it's ugly, fine, it's FRICKIN FASTER THAN YOUR POS, granted. I can be such a fanboy over this car but It will always be a level above my understanding, while I'm young anyway.

It has an engine that looks like 2 v8s and has more cylinders than anything. it has four turbochargers and of course they're not ordinary either. This car is so fast already and that's not even the limit of it's ...limits? Where's the love? Represent!!

Re: This car is so underrated

He is right. I would know i work at one of five Bugatti dealerships in North America. Some think it is ugly but when you see it every day it grows on you. Now i think it is one of the best looking cars out there and i see Lamborghini's and Bentley's every day also. Just to support what he is saying, if the Bugatti and McLareen F1 were in a race to 200mph, the Bugatti could wait until the McLareen is at 120mph before it even starts and it would still beat it to 200. thats fast, and i can get rides in the thing. hahahahah.

Re: This car is so underrated

Underrated? Are you kidding me? This car has been getting more attention from the auto press then just about anything. If anything it is rediculously overrated. The car is way too heavy and not very aerodynamically sound. It completely misses the point.

VW's executives made 3 incredibly flawed requirements for the Veyron-

1) Top Speed of 250mph- Top speed records are completely arbitrary and only stand as a marketing tool to brag about. Anyone that watches F1 or other series knows that top speed isn't what wins races. F1 cars have been shown to do well over 255mph with an aero package set up for it, but in races they opt for much more downforce, limiting them to around 200mph in the straightaways. Part of the beauty of the McLaren F1 is that they didn't care what the top speed was because they realize that it didn't matter. There is virtually no motorsport where you will need to be capable of reaching 250mph.

2) The Design- The VW execs wanted the Veyron to keep a certain shape, greatly limiting the engineers ability to create the aerodynamics the car needed to handle well and reach the desired top speed. Thus, the Veyron needed 1,000hp to reach 250mph. In an article written shortly after the Veyron was released, Gordon Murray, the head designer for the McLaren F1 explained how the Veyron basically had the aerodynamics of a dead cow. If they had wanted the McLaren F1 to do 250mph, they would have only needed about 750hp, much less then the Veyron needs.

3) 1,000hp- again, completely arbitrary. As amazing as the W16 Quadturbo engine is, it adds an obscene amount of weight. It might as well have a diesel engine from a semi. A supercar shouldn't have to sacrifice that much to reach a certain power mark. Weight hurts cornering speed, which is just as important (if not more important) for a supercar.

All the magazines talk about with the Veyron is top speed, but I havn't seen anyone put it around a track against an Enzo, Zonda F, CCX, etc. I think this is because they know it will lose to these ligher, better designed, less expensive supercars. It isn't very good as a road car either as it has no trunk.

Soon we will see the coming of the Caparo T1, the anti-Veyron. 500+hp from a 2.4L in a car that weighs 500kg and will be as fast as a LMP2 or A1GP race car around a track. This is how a supercar should be built, by engineers and designers, not by executives that don't know better.

Re: This car is so underrated

The veyron has been put on this pedestal because of what it is, it's heavy but awd helps.

A lot of people I know absolutely hate this car, because they want to see a car that's faster, and then what? how fast does any car have to be to be better? Cheap? as in faster than your car, so that's cheap. It's the ultimate supercar, I still don't like how it looks.

Or atleast it was till when it came out all automakers were struggling to create something better. Now people just say the name veyron like it's a piece of cheese or another old movie, THEY totally miss the point. that my companions is why this car is so underrated, even if in a surprising way. Soon there will be faster cars, what am I saying, they're already here, and LIGHTER right? then everyone will forget about the veyron. pisses me off.

Personally i'm rooting for the Saleen S7 competition.

I think, this car is a great example how a supercar would look like when it would be build and designed by the best and richest team in the world under supervision by a kid who landed in a candy store.

Re: This car is so underrated

i'd rather have dyno247365's camaro, good american muscle, that is my type of car, granted i like exotics too. but seriously y would i buy the veyron, at least the mclaren is better looking, and as of right now easier to find, and cheaper. the types of cars i like have 3 things, a well developed eng/trans, decents looks, and everyday usability, not a garage queen

100% in agreement with your comments. After george Kacher's impressions of time spent with the Veyron in car magazine the car totally lost it's veneer.

Love live the McLaren F1 and let's keep an eye open for the coming of the Caparo T1 (incidentally a company that Gordon Murray - the F1's designer - has joined)

Re: This car is so underrated

I tottaly agree with DinanM3_S2.

If I had to choose a word to define the Bugatti Veyron, I would choose the word nonsense. The chief of the project (which name I can't remember) just wanted a 250mph-1000bhp-car and the engineers had to solve all the huge problems that came up. Why do you think the car has 10 radiators?
It's true that the engineers solved lots of problems briliantly, as Gordon Murray admitted the car turns as he would never expect it to. So I congratulate the engineers for it.
But that's not the point. A car should be as simple as it can. I just can't classify the Veyron as a sports car, I think of it as a fusion of a dragster and a limo. A sports car should be light and fun. I never driven it or the McLaren, but I could bet my life that the McLaren F1 is much, much more fun.

So, long life to the McLaren F1, a supercar built as a supercar should be.

I think the Ferrari FXX is faster, but it isn't street legal.

Re: This car is so underrated

I dont think its UNDERratted but i disagree with everyone here putting it down. About the weight: Top Gear took the car for a top speed test drive and said that unlike any other care they have ever driven that exceeded 200mph, this was the first one that felt smooth and didnt feel like it was about to "rip appart"...this is thanks for the tank-like structure and it being "too heavy". as for the poor horsepower for a W16TT: first off its two tiney V8s put togather making a total of 8leters (something tells me dodge did that with 10 clylenders and chevy almost did that with 8 clyenders.) so its not THAT big of an engine. Also, with the four turbos, i saw a bugatti engineer explain the purpose of these turbos. He said they are 4 small turbos ment to boost the hoursepower but they are small enough that there is no noticable turbe lag whatsoever.
The reason, i think, that the car is such and acheivement is that its basically a luxury super car, rather than a stripped down one like the Mclaren F1 (which the company recomends you wear a headset when driving) or the ferrari F40, F50, F60. This car rides like a lexis or nice BMW and still goes 253mph?!?!...Wow. This is also no race car by another standard other than its comfort...and that is the actual technology behind it. It has a radiator for the spoiler!!!...which by the way tilts to help slow the car down. This car also has the current fastest 0-60 time (as well as 0 to anything else) of any street legal production car, and the coolest part is that your passenger will still think you are going 60.

You have to realize that the Veyron does weigh ~1100 lbs more then an Enzo, and almost 2000lbs more than the new Zonda.
The Zonda and Enzo have beaten the Veyron around the ring, but by only ~8 seconds. (Yet you must remember, both cars weigh 1000lbs less than the Veyron)

As for it being "not very aerodynamically sound", last time I checked, it wasn't tearing apart at it's top speed...so they must have done a good job with it.

"It isn't very good as a road car either as it has no trunk."
Sorry but guess what...it does have a trunk...surprising isn't it!

And if you don't think top speed shouldn't matter...well then let's look at all other aspects of it.
0-60 in 2.5 seconds (I guess that sucks as well)
Have the F1 start at 100 and the Veyron at a stop, and the Veyron will still kill it to 200.

And after putting all this info together, you must realize that it still has a navigation system, air conditioning, a Trunk, (and it's so stable, you can take your hands off the wheel while doing 253 and it will still keep going straight).

So I guess in the end, the F1 DOES have a cool drivers seat in the middle, and an engine so loud you can't hear what your passengers are saying without talking through a headset.
SO if you want a formula 1 car, go for the F1, if you want a road car that dominates all others in every aspect...then go for the Veyron.

Because during an early model, they parked it next to another car after a while of testing and the other car started melting because of all the heat being released.
