Price Check on Fixing My Cutlass

Hello everyone,

I wrote a post a few months back about my troubled 1986 Cutlass Supreme.

Well I've finally taken it to a shop and had them take a look and I'm expecting a quote estimate tomorrow. I was hoping someone with experience could tell me what range I should be paying so I don't get swindled.

I took it in knowing the following was wrong:
*Fan Belt needs replaced (shredded)
*Exhaust leak
*Overheating problems

When I took it in the mechanic told me he sees a cracked tailpipe where it meets the exhaust, so I would definitely need some exhaust work done.

I recently had my oil changed, radiator flushed and a new thermostat installed and the car was NOT overheating until around the time of the fan belt. Could that be the culprit of my overheating problem? (The oil/choke light is on and stays on when i fire up the car)

So I've researched a couple sites with similar work done and I came up with the following:

50$ Parts and labor for Fan Belt
300-800$ for the exhaust repairs

Does this sound correct or am I way off the spectrum?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm very strapped for cash.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Price Check on Fixing My Cutlass

Well, since the no reply I had to just go for it.

They said I need all my belts replaced- 180$
New muffler, tailpipe, catalytic converter- 360$

Making a grand total of 540$

Then they're going to run the car for a while and see if it still overheats.
