1963 Ford C700 302! Specs! Help!
I have a 1963 Ford C700 dump truck with a 302 engine. I'm needing to know head bolt torque sequence and specs, intake manifold bolt torque specs, and sequence for adjusting the valves. Anything will help! Thanks!

These trucks never came with a 302 (which is part of the Windsor engine family and were first made in 1968)

There WAS a 302 for HD truck ONLY (and some tractors) used from '56 through '63. It is NOT similar to the "Windsor" design of the later 289/302. It is basically a '50s Lincoln V8. There were also 332, 341 and 368 CID versions, all gone by '66. It shares no parts with either the FE series OR the Windsor series.
Bore is 3.625" and stroke is 3.66". My books don't go back far enough for torque specs. Sorry. Federal Mogul still lists all the bearings, though... If you post the bolt sizes (the shank, not the head) and thread pitch, I can provide torque specs based on that. Jim |

No its a 302. And its straight from the factory. The VIN number matches up to a 302. The 4th digit of the VIN, which is N, means its a 302. We've owned it since it was new. But we've already got it back together now.

To the best of my knowledge, the 383 and 410 are both "FE" engines, similar to the 390. I know of a '59 Edsel with 383. Lots of 410 "Mercs" over the years. The 430 and 462 are definitely their own "family". 430 first showed up in '58. These others are a bit smaller (externally), but similar in appearance.

Although the displacements were the same, the application was obviously different. As I recall, the MEL 410 engine was a torquey, low-revving piece while the FE 410 was a high performance engine. I have the 96-99 Ford service manual, it gives me the head bolt torque sequence and torque specs. You can order a manual for your '63 Truck in CD version. Here's the link: http://4door.com/manuals/ford/ford_truck_cd.html
This one cover all the 61-63 Ford Trucks. It's expensive, so you can try to download it.
