Im Shopping some 06 Freestars

Any thing to keep a eye for??? I have a 96 Windstar now, that I have retired, and wonder how these Freestars are. I see this board is pretty slow, so I guess thats a good sign. Thanks for any help!!

Re: Im Shopping some 06 Freestars

I have owned my 04 now for about 3 years, and there has been no major issues. Just rear brakes, they wear very fast on this van. And they changed out a front wheel bearing that was squeeling real bad at highway speed. Besides that it's just been normal maintenance.

Cool. As amatter of fact, I just picked my new van up last week!!

A real nice 06 SE. Nothing fancy, but nice. Its got a lot of miles on it. [90k] but runs sweet!!! Oh... and ya, the rear brakes were toast.

Just be careful with the transaxle. Don't accelerate too much, don't release the brakes until the transmission is fully engaged.

A Windstar without having the check engine light is not a real Windstar.

The transmissions are junk but hope you have good luck with yours.

A Ford tech told me that the trans in 2006 Freestar was totally redesigned, and it should last all the VAN's life.

It's not like the 2004-2005 Freestar's trans that brake after 50,000 miles.

Someone had told me that also from a dealer. Well it has almost 100k on the trans and working great. I love the van!!

Glad to hear you both have a van that works the way it should. I had 200K miles on a 98 Windstar I had before I bought the Freestar.

Well 2 years have passed and still loving the thing!!! Realy no problems at all. Cruze stopped for a month or two a year ago, but other than battling spungy brakes.. its been a dream!!! 130k on it, and still glad I bought it!!!
