Key Fobs
When I bought my Rover 200, 3 door ,1998 car, I was given 2 handsets. This week my main set wouldn't work. I was advised to get a new spare set. When I phoned the dealer they said it would be £60 for the handset & £ 60 to fit? Is this the norm?

Firstly, is there any reason WHY the hand set wont work? Are you saying BOTH key fobs don't work? Is it just the batteries died, because you should be able to just stick new batteries in and resink the jey fob to the car. You do this by firstly ensuring the boot, bonnet and doors are shut but unlocked, then stand by the driver door and hold the key fob at it and quickly depress the lock button about 5 times, I think it's 4, but just keep doing it say 6 times to be sure. The car should then lock and the key fob is resinked to the car. I'm assuming it's the same with the hatchback which it sounds like you have. The coupe (tomcat) is a 2 door coupe with a boot, not a three door hatchback like it seems you might have. If that fails, then you can get the key fob reprogrammed at various places, I think some alarm shops will be able to do this, or Rover themselves can, but your cheaper option is an independent garage/alarm shop. Why buy a new key fob from Rover when you have one. I mean, even if the one you have is utter useless and cannot be reprogrammed or resinked, you can buy them off ebay for £5 and get them reprogrammed to your car. I did this with a fellow club member who lives in Argentina. Getting parts out there is a nightmare, so I sourced a key fob on ebay and sent it to him in the post and his local garage reprogrammed it for him.
