1983 733i not starting Help! Was running great!

Hi my soon to be ex-husband if he doesn't get my car started by morning -
had just fixed my center bearing - car was running like a champ -
We have a couple leaks in out exhaust pipes he was going to fix --- I went out there and he was tightning the belt right behind the fan! Is that ok to do? He was also "making sure the wires to everything were connected good" - by fiddling with them. He tried to start the car and it wouldn't start - starter turns - I don't think I hear the fuel pump right when I turn the key on. I am so pissed. I told him to get the idiot light out like he is.
Can someone please t ell me what i need to check and how.
Also on the battery the negative cable has the neg cable to the post and then another little on that was bolted to side of car - so kind of like two grounds with idiot light. Is that right???
I hate him!
Will someone tell me how to use an idiot light to test everything?
