P0449 code

I have a 2008 Torrent that the check engine light came on. This code came up on a scanner for the evap emission control system vent, viv/sol malfunction. I checked my gas cap first and that wasn't the problem. What is this and how can I fix it?

Re: P0449 code

If I remember right, this code involves the circuit to the vent solenoid.......when the solenoid is commanded on, the valve should be closed...... if a drop in vacuum is detected by the pressure sensor, when the system is sealed, or if vac doesn't increase if the purge is activated, then a code is set....

To test the circuit to the solenoid, you need a scan tool to command the circuit on(disconnect harness to the solenoid and attach a test light)......if the circuit is ok, chances are the vent solenoid is bad.....a smoke test would be the way to diagnose this....
