Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
Hi, I am new to the forum. I am having the same troubles as what much has been described here. I have a 2001 LS V6 auto and my code reader is giving me P0171 and P0174 also. I have cleaned the MAF sensor up and would like to try the PCV valve next. I am looking for some instruction and pictures if possible.
Rod, PM sent. Thanks! |

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
This problem was resolved 7-years ago, please use search tools, and similar threads in forum.
I put a ACME AUTO EMISSIONS FILTER, on my Jaguar, so the emission gunk wouldn't contaminate my MAF, IACT, H02 sensors, Throttle body, and catalytic converters. The filter seems to squeeze oil out of the emissions, before going back into the intake of motor. Contaminated sensors seem to give the wrong signals to the Engine control unit and leads up to throwing Diagnostic Trouble Codes( DTC) , because of bad, or dirty sensors. See http://www.ideabuyer.com/ipavail/acm...issions-filter Last edited by danielsatur; 10-18-2010 at 09:59 PM. |

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
Hi All,
I just picked up a 2000 LS with 35,500 miles last week and it just threw codes P0171 and P0174. Looks like they all have issues. Rod, I sent you a PM. Can you send me the info that you've sent others. Thanks, P.J. |

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
My pcv elbow was collapsed with a hole in it. A new pcv and elbow, new gaskets, and spark plugs and she's running great (knock on wood).

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
my 2000 ls randomly shuts off at idle too though most people here have done the work themselves and I understand the cost of taking it in was eliminated. I'm curious as to the cost of the elbows, gaskets ect. to personally complete the repair our engine hasn't been taken care of too well and is the only family car we bought it used and have had nothing but problems with everything from windows to this now I was going to take it in for an oil change and ask the machanic his price but I'd like to know what you guys spent on the project my husband may be able to repair it himself if this is indeed the problem I need to at least make the car last the next few years and be reliable. thanks any info in this case would be great!

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
I don't know what a shop would charge for this, but keep in mind that there are not a lot of these cars on the road, and the engine was pretty much specific to this model (as well as a Jaguar, also not high production). There won't be a lot of shops that will know what needs to happen. They will however have labor manuals that they will base their estimate off of. The PCV elbow runs about $25 from the dealer. Anticipate about a 40% markup if you are paying a shop for the work, plus probably 2 hours for labor at $100 per hour (rough estimate). If you opt to have the plugs changed while they're in there (recommended) then you might expect to pay another $10 per plug x 6 plugs. The added labor may be another 30 minutes if they are doing the PCV elbow anyway. If they find that the valve cover gaskets are leaking, then you're probably looking at another $120 for gaskets and shop supplies and maybe another 1 hour for labor. They'd probably want to replace one or more coils which may run another $150 each and really no extra labor since they'd need to come out to change plugs and/or valve cover gaskets.
For your stalling though you might first want to start be checking the age of the battery in the spare tire well. If it's 3 or more years old, you might change it and see if that fixes some of the issues. The electrical system in these cars is quite sensitive. -Rod |
