Internal code reader doesn' work

1999 am Van 360

So I solve the problem with my fan switch, go out to dinner and after dinner, when I try to start the van, engine turns over but no start. Get it towed home, pull the dog house cover, pull the coil wire from the distributor to check for spark and it starts!

I then do some voltage checks on the TPS (had some hesitation at partial throttle) and it checks out but the check engine light comes on.

I try the key on key off 3 times trick to get codes but nothing shows up... including the P done.

Any ideas on why this isn't working?

PS disconnected the battery for 20 minutes to get rid of the check engine light.

I'll assume you put the coil wire back first.
For the code check key dance, just to make sure, it is ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON, read the codes.

Yeah... put the coil wire back... lol

I tried the key dance just now and still doesn't work. Cleared the tripometer and tried again, no good, set it to the odometer and tried with no results there either.

My user name is for the 92 Doge Ram I also own. The key dance problem is with my 99 Dodge Ram... (just to make sure).

thanks again.

Then just swing into your local Autozone and they will read the codes for free.

Yes, I know. It's just real nice to be able to do it while I'm working on it.

Thanks.
