Re: Hey you guys wanted a new Supra to come out right?, well...

there are pros and cons to this idea. as much as i would love an altimate goal to work towards, but i feel proud to be 1 of the few supra owners.

for me, i cant decide which way to vote...

Re: Hey you guys wanted a new Supra to come out right?, well...

<--this pretty much sums up my feelings of toyota. I love the supra and i own a SC300, but i don't understand why they don't create the MkV Supra. The primary reason the supra was pulled in 1998 were the terrible conditions of the the japanese stock market. These in addition to costs increases resulting from the lousy market is why nissan, and mazda pulled the 300z, and rx7, (the rx7 had other issues too.) Nissan and Mazda are both back with great machines (350z, rx8) and they are dominating the market. What is even worse is that nissan has TWO cars that rival where the supra was ten years ago (G35 coupe in addition to 350Z). Big horse power is back in, and often times the enthusiasts (all of us here) which only makes up eight to eleven percent of the total automotive market, dominates and guides trends. This is a marketing nightmare for toyota who desperately needs a sports car.

Now in terms of the I6 or v8 engine: the 2jzg(t)e engine(s) were beautiful and very powerful, even today. V8's are great, produce good torque, and are easy to produce. However, with the supra's lineage of only I6's and the fact that I6's are better balanced and unique in the market (minus BMW,) Toyota should create the 3jzgte. The inline engine which produces more torque than a V shape (read:I6 vs. V6) and has less mechanical dissonance.

Bottom line: TOYOTA, BUILD THE MKV SUPRA WITH THE 3JZGTE.

i wouldn't consider the rx8 a "great machine," but the 350z's and g35's are definately sleek cars. i'm pretty sure that the supra will be brought back eventually. i'd say just give it time for those japs to realize that the celicas and v6 camry's aren't cutting it when it comes to their "top-of-the-line" performance vehicles. the longer they wait the better sales will be when they actually produce it, which is a good chance that's what they're looking at now.

granted, but they are still selling very well. Even with a conservative company like toyota they desperately need something sportier than a scion tC or the celica (which is being replaced by the said tC.) Fuel prices are climbing and toyota unless they develop something quickly will have missed out on all the high horsepower fun. Nissan as we know has certainly capitalized on it, but with premium gas running at three dollars a gallon, we might have a repeat of the 1970's: meaning crappy low performance cars (example Mustang II.)

Umm, the fuel crisis of 1973/74 or so was far, far, far worse than it seems today.

There was no 1974 24 Hours of Dayonta or Twelve Hours of Sebring due to the fuel crisis.

"Although the Sebring 12 Hours dropped from the World Sportscar Championship in 1972 when the FIA withdrew its sanction for the event, IMSA stepped in and the Sebring 12 Hours remained an important event in the calendar despite the cancellation of the 1974 race because of the fuel crisis."

- grandprix.com

Performance cars have FAR more performance and gas mileage than pony cars, muscle cars, and sports cars of the 1970s. Ford is developing an all-new 3.5 liter DOHC V-6. The new crossover SUV, the Ford Edge, will get it this fall.

Re: Hey you guys wanted a new Supra to come out right?, well...

well i wouldn't have a problem with them bringing the supra back with either a v or i6, true it's the way it used to be, but umm...the gtr is running a v6 not an inline like the past gens. and a v-8 in a japanesse car just doesn't seem right, except maybe a new nsx or some other mid engine design. i own a stealth tt, same class, it toyota wants to come out with a new supra then they need to up the power. the gtr runs 450hp to one of the best awd systems. a supra would need more power and torque to keep up at the local drag. i'd love to c a new supra. i live in northwest jersey, i'm unfortanate, i've only ever seen one mkIV

Re: Hey you guys wanted a new Supra to come out right?, well...

Here's the one mistake you're making with your petition concept: How many of the people signing this petition will actually be able to afford/buy the new Supra?
Many people seem to forget that the world is in a ditch with the consumption of oil. Cars from here on out need to be running alternative fuels and with the price of this new Supra, only a small percentage of Americans will be able to dish out the money for it. It will become not only a supercar, but a luxury/exotic car.
Now, I'm in love with MKIV Supra's, but I just don't see Toyota producing something that will bring down their sales. It may very well cost them more money to produce than sell. However, IF Toyota decided to produce a certain number and be done after that, they will keep their profits up and most likely sell them all. Just like there were only 7,866 Supra Turbo's produced and exported to the United States between 1993 and 1998. And even less with the Getrag 6-speed transmission.
Sorry to disappoint you all, but if you really want to make a difference, come up with 40 thousand and call Toyota and press them to do it.

Sorry, not going to happen. They're not going to take the word of a bunch of anonymous people online, invest a ton of money, have to charge an arm & a leg and risk having most of those people not buy it.
