1998 c230 transmission ?

Drove car up the block and when I went to stop and put the car in park it would not engage and the car kept rolling even though car was shut off. To make things worse car would not start back up and gear shift just moves freely up and down all gears. If Someone with expertise could advise to what the issue may be that would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

That sounds like a shifter cable problem. It either came disconnected or just snapped. I say this is because it sounds like the car is stuck in drive. Not staying still, car refusing to start, shifter moving without any restriction. I'd start with the shifter cable.
