I honestly think that Markko is in with a chance on this one! (fingers crossed).

You'll find that people over in my rally forum are very knowledgeable and you are underestimating them.

For the Monte, I've put my money on Loeb and we all know the result ... :o
For Sweden I'm putting my money on McRae. And here is the reason why. Citroën was the busiest during winter testing season, covering a stunning 4000 kms and 29days of testing, compared to Ford 1992 kms and 12days and Peugeot 600 kms and 10days. Sure they have still a lot to develop, but McRae was the one who did and intensive test session up North in the snow and temp of -30°C. He's all fired up again and knows he has the car to deliver. He's the man to watch this rally. |

Only bad luck will stop Gronholm and if he can't do it then Rovanpera will!
Last year the Xsara was nowhere in the snow, even with Swedish specialist Radstrom driving. I know a lot has changed since then but not enough I suspect. A non-Scandinavian driver has never won in Sweden. With two Fins in Pugs that is not going to change this year. Of course I could be mistaken..... :silly2: |

I think I'd have to go with the safe choice of Gronhom for the win. He was in control of the Monte until his little off and the Peugeots are still strong. My second less-obvious choice would be Solberg, assuming he can keep his new Subaru out of the scenery for this rally.
It will be very interesting to see if the Citroens can match their Monte performance in the snow and ice of Sweden. For UK TV viewers - C4 rally shakedown is on very early on Wednesday morning at about 00:30. Don't miss it (like I usually do)!

Actually I'll have to corect myself concerning the Citroens performance in Sweden last year. I recalled that Radstrom had a terrible time but just checked the actual results. Apart form losing a lot of time in a few accidents he didn't do too bad after all. Even set a fastest stage time at one point. For all except three stages he was comfortably within the top ten. Loeb however was truely nowhere, as would be expected given that his driving style is optimised for tarmac not studs on snow.
Now McRae and Sainz are no Radstrom but maybe they could do something with the Xsara afterall. Be a big ask to beat the Fins in Pugs though. |

It all depends on the weather....but given that they expect a lot of ice and snow....leave it to the Scandanavian drivers to decide amongst themselves.....
Obviously there is a chance a non-Finnish driver could win, but this is the WRC and we all know that you can be leading one minute, and 30 minutes back the next.....
